Radish-leaved cuckoo flower (Cardamine raphanifolia)
A low-growing perennial producing an abundance of tender salad leaves that taste similar to watercress or mild rocket. Leaves can be harvested almost year-round. Plants are sprawling and stems root where they touch the earth. Rooted divisions can be lifted and potted up in autumn or early spring.
Bees and other insects are attracted to the pretty pink flowers that appear in spring.
Naturally, Cardamine raphanifolia is a bog plant and will tolerate heavy wet soils; however, it will grow well in a variety of conditions and is really not very fussy. It is quite shade tolerant and, as it is low growing and spreading, makes a good ground cover plant between e.g. fruit bushes.
